Trend Alert: Rattan in Furnishings

At JAC, as interior designers in Los Angles, we realize that rattan is making a huge comeback as an interior design trend of 2019 and although that is not really breaking news, it is a reminder that texture, especially through natural materials like rattan, wicker and wovens is an essential part of making a room feel interesting and layered. I think a lot of people associate wicker with old lady outdoor patio furniture and rattan with boho/California style only. But you can work these materials into any kind of room- be it modern, traditional, beachy, eclectic or anything in between. We have seen rattan furniture and decorative accessories creep back onto the interiors radar a couple of years ago – probably at the same time as the boho chic thing started happening. Now, rattan is everywhere and we love its versatility and we revel in the rattan trends of 2019. With its natural appearance, rattan can add warmth, texture visual interest and an organic element to you space. And while rattan looks beautiful and earthy when left natural and raw, it can easily be painted with any desired color to add a playfully quirky look to your home to show off your personality. Rattan is not just for your patio and outside spaces. A touch of tasteful rattan can look beautiful in any room. We love it in the dining room in these rattan chairs, hanging pendants or a chandelier. And in the bedroom it makes for a great headboard or used in side-tables it looks amazing. If placed in a kid's bedroom or playroom it can look fantastical, other worldly and uber charming. Rattan and woven accessories and furnishings are all over the place in 2019 and we give this trend a JAC stamp of approval!
