Interior Design in Indian Wells

Indian Wells sits between Palm Desert and La Quinta in the southern Coachella Valley, but it occupies a very different tier than its neighbors. The city’s residential landscape is defined by private gated communities—The Madison Club, Toscana Country Club, El Dorado Country Club—where the homes are built to a higher specification and the expectations for design follow accordingly.

JAC Interiors has worked here, most notably at The Madison Club, where we handled materials, lighting, and custom furniture from the ground up—and sourced art from both Los Angeles and the Coachella Valley to give the home a gallery-like quality while keeping it livable for a young family using it as a winter retreat. The project is a good illustration of what Indian Wells asks of a designer: desert luxury without the themes, and indoor-outdoor living that actually functions.

The Desert Luxury Aesthetic

Desert design has its own logic. Too much regional theming and a home starts to feel like a resort; too much imported from the primary residence and the context disappears. The right approach is responsive to what’s actually here—the light, the landscape, the materials that belong: natural stone, bleached oak, sandy neutrals, deep terracotta accents, and textiles substantial enough for the scale of these homes.

The Coachella Valley light is intense and directional, and managing it through material selection, window treatment, and surface finish is its own design challenge. Indoor-outdoor connection isn’t a bonus feature in Indian Wells—it’s the primary use case, and we design around it from the start.

Second Homes & Private Communities

Most Indian Wells projects are seasonal or second homes—clients whose primary residence is in Los Angeles, the Bay Area, or out of state, and who want a winter property that feels designed rather than furnished by necessity. These projects require precision planning and thorough documentation: we’re not on site every week, so the finish schedules, contractor relationships, and procurement coordination have to be tight enough that the result arrives complete.

Working within private club communities means understanding HOA and architectural review requirements from the start. We come to this prepared rather than surprised mid-project.

Our Process

We begin with a site visit and a conversation about how the property is actually used—full-time winter residence, seasonal retreat, or an occasional property for hosting. From there we build a plan covering every room: layout, finish specifications, furnishing procurement, and complete installation coordination. The end result should feel as considered as any primary home.
