Calabasas

This project was a true labor of love. JAC was given the privilege to transform a dated and tired house into a beautiful 10K sq ft family home in Calabasas in the Mountain View estates community and we loved the challenge. We transformed nearly every inch of this  home with first the remodel, then added in the luxe layers of furnishings that really turns a house into a home. This property sits atop a mountain with scenic views all around and includes a basketball court, swimming pool, spa, and loads of liveable outdoor space complete with cozy seating around fire pits to take in the mountain air. We also remade the outdoor kitchen and installed a stand alone pizza oven.

One aspect  of change that always freshens a tired home is new flooring, and we installed a beautiful and beachy wide plank hardwood floor that replaced the over-the-top marble flooring and in addition to it being an immediate update it also really set the tone. In the entry, the stairs to the second floor are very ‘old Hollywood’ and we wanted to keep that feel but added a bespoke camouflage-pattern stair runner to juxtapose the fancy railings. By installing sculpture-like sconces and a giant but modern chandelier we were able to set the stage for the rest of the home: a modern  and artsy boho dwelling with glamorous and timeless updates to match the mediterranean architecture. The powder room is dark and moody with Kelly Wearstler Groundworks wallpaper and a matte black ceiling.

We did want to keep some of the original aspects of the home like the beautiful cabinetry in the kitchen, but updated them with fresh paint, new hardware, and added new plumbing and lighting to punch it all up a notch. All the countertops and backsplashes and ovens  were redone to complete the modern vibe.

The  theater needed a complete gut job and now reads like a swanky and chic screening room complete with cashmere throw blankets and heated popcorn bowls! The living room and dining rooms are both a study in monotone glamor with a few organic vibes thrown in for good measure. The powder room is dark and moody with Kelly Wearstler Groundworks wallpaper and a matte black ceiling. The Primary bathroom was gutted and remade with a beautiful black and white high contrast slab and the lighting throughout befitting a starlit.

All in all the house is now a perfect place to entertain family and friends with all the modern updates a home wants but still feels vintage with some patina to keep things looking and feeling interesting, which of  course is always a good idea.
